Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has bowed to pressure from fans and sponsors and will play this year’s Wimbledon Championships with his left hand in an attempt to level the playing field.
The Serb has been wiping the floor with his dispirited rivals for the past few years but his success has backfired on the game with tournaments becoming predictable bore fests.
Wimbledon fears the public are tired of seeing Andy Murray being humiliated and won’t bother to show up for the tournament… leaving the club badly out of pocket on the Pimms and strawberries they’ve ordered.
Thankfully, the sporting Serb has agreed to their request to play with his weaker hand. “To be honest, I like Andy and I can’t bear to see that look of disappointment on his little face every time we play.
“But you know, Andy is a proud man and won’t take something for nothing. In return, he’s promised to give me a few tips on making such great runner-up speeches and how to get the crowds to love me.
The bookies have not been swayed and still have the Serb installed as their odds on favourite to lift the trophy.
The surprise move is not the first of its kind. In 2012, UEFA told Spain they weren’t allowed to play any strikers after they had won the previous two tournaments.
However, the Spanish were not too bothered and went ahead and won the title anyway beating Italy 4-0 in the final with goals from their midfielders and defenders.
FIFA reacted by forcing them to play Fernando Torres at the World Cup two years later and the inclusion immediately had the desired effect with Spain crashing out of the competition in the first round.
If the left-handed Djokovic move is also successful then other major sporting organisations are expected to follow suit. The Olympic Committee are already holding preliminary talks about Usain Bolt running the 100m in Rio with a stubbed toe, or possibly even a carrying a small child on his back.
Mo Farah is considering a request to run while eating a dish of the Quorn meat substitute he advertises.
