Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he will play himself in the film of his life because there is no one else good enough to take on the role.

The Juventus demi-god will turn his attention to the big screen once he finally hangs up his boots and his debut role will be as himself in the biopic CR7.

Ronaldo was initially open to the idea of an actor portraying him and was part of the team that auditioned numerous talents for the role including Hollywood stars Zac Efron and Channing Tatum.

However, the day was a washout after none of them were good enough to play Ronaldo leading to the Portuguese star throwing his arms up in frustration.

He explained: “This needs to be true to life. This is the story of Cristiano’s rise from the streets of Portugal to become the best player in the world.”

The goal machine concluded that no actor could do the role justice and he will play himself.

The film’s opening sequence sees Ronaldo as a young child living in poverty in Portugal. Dozens of boys auditioned but were unsuccessful and the 34-year-old star will be taking on that role too.

Rumours are circling as to who will play Ronaldo’s arch rival and second best player in the world Lionel Messi. Ronaldo is thought to want Danny DeVito to play the role.

Veteran Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimović will be a recurring character in the film and will also play himself after realising there is no-one worthy of playing him either.

He is however, pushing for a re-write of the script and a rename of the film to Zlatan.
