West Ham forward Andy Carroll will hereby be known simply as Andy in an outlandish bid to generate a move to one of Europe’s big clubs.

The Geordie powerhouse has taken the drastic step following advice from his agent who believes the quirky sound of a single name is more attractive to the elite teams.

According to sources close to the player, he believes that this summer is the right time to move on and he fancies a stay at one of the major Champions League sides.

Andy’s agent Nelson Gonzalez said: “Whenever you think of the great entertainers from the past, you think of Pele, Ronaldo, Kaka, and of course Ronaldinho.”

“Fans in Europe appreciate it when their heroes have iconic, simple names. Andy could be the next name on that list.”

The early signs are that the shock move may have worked, with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich making inquiries about the potential fee that Andy would demand.

There was said to be hysterical laughter coming from the West Ham boardroom as Karren Brady and David Sullivan discussed how much they could get away with asking for Andy, who once famously cost £35m.

Arsenal have been alerted to the news and have immediately made it known that they would be open to offers for both Theo and Jack.
