Sutton boss will rest stars against minnows Arsenal

Sutton manager Paul Doswell has revealed he will rest many of his key players for tonight’s FA Cup clash against minnows Arsenal, to keep them fresh for the battle against relegation from the conference.

“I will utilise the squad we have” Doswell told reporters, before adding that the game against the London strugglers was a “great opportunity for some of the younger players to show what they can do”.

“The team I pick will be more than capable of getting a result” he insisted.

Arsene Wenger, the man in the opposite dugout, is a real old school boss and has overseen everything from top to bottom at Arsenal for a remarkable 20 years. Such a thing would be unheard of at one of the country’s top clubs.

In that time he has never managed to beat a side from the Conference.

This season, however, Arsenal have already recorded shock victories over Hull City and Burnley, so a giant killing is not completely out of the question.

Football experts have highlighted Mesut Ozil as one of the Arsenal players to look out for, describing him as ‘mesmerising on his day’.

Unfortunately, the last reported time Ozil had ‘one of his days’, was in 2014.

The winners of tonight’s clash will face the daunting prospect of a visit from Conference leaders Lincoln in the next round.

Sources close to Wenger revealed the Frenchman is quietly confident about his team’s chances, pointing out that the magic of the FA Cup makes anything possible, and also that he has long been trying to build a team capable of taking on the game’s big hitters.

Realistically though, surely only the most die-hard Arsenal fans will be travelling to Sutton’s Gander Lane in the hope that their side can pull off what would be one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time.

However, Sutton boss Doswell is taking nothing for granted and is insisting his side will show respect to their opponents.

“There are no easy games” he said. “It will be like a cup final for those Arsenal boys, all the pressure is on us.”
