Traffic wardens hit the jackpot on the streets of Dover

Hundreds of traffic wardens are returning back to their homes in celebration having smashed their annual commission targets in just one weekend in Dover.

Tens of thousands of parking tickets were issued to the unfortunate holidaymakers stranded on the motorways leading in to Dover port.

The motorists were forced to wait in the searing heat, as increased French security checks at the UK border caused tailbacks of up to 12 hours.

However, not everyone was complaining as one traffic warden explained: “It was like all our Christmases came at once. I just walked from car to car down the motorway issuing tickets. It was like taking candy from a baby.

“Some may call me a cynic or a parasite, but I’m not. Of course I feel for these families and I know they could do absolutely nothing about it, but at the end of the day, it is illegal to park on the motorway, and rules are rules.

“Besides which, I have made more than £6,000 bonus in two days! I’ve told the wife she can go ahead and book the trip to Disneyland for the kids.

“We’re not leaving ‘til the end of August though, I’m just heading home for a day to get a good sleep and then I’m back to do another 20 hours before this gravy train finally moves on!”
