Please can I have my country back
The Britain I knew in my youth
A place of decency and tolerance
With a healthy respect for the truth.
I don’t recognise what we’ve become
Full of ranting, hatred and lies
Where we throw away all our values
In pursuit of some dubious prize.
Anger is not the same as passion
Shouting is not the same as debate
Ridiculous claims debase us all
Though they may now determine our fate.
Please step back from the brink
Whichever side you’re on,
Tolerance is the real Pride of Britain
We’ll miss when it’s gone.
